  Reeds: Cane, Plastic or Kryptonite?

Well after preliminary testing I have to say that I still prefer Bari reeds as far as synthetics go. The Legere reed was stiff and felt like it had a cut that was "too short". Of course, since they're transparent, you can't see what's going on with the cut, so it's very difficult to adjust it with a reed knife either. Another thing I didn't like was that it doesn't have the "texture" that the Bari reed has. This texture gives it a more natural "feel" and it somehow feels more secure on the lip. You can tell when it's moved around...where with the Legere it's prefectly smoothe and you kind of feel like you don't know where it's going next.

I guess I'll have to chalk that $13.00 up to experience. I'm going to have to give the Legere a "thumbs down" - at least for Alto Sax.

Next on the docket : the Legere for Bb Clarinet - Though after the Alto test I've not got any high hopes for it...

We'll keep you posted. (See Comments...)
